Scaring Monkeys with Toys
Some monkeys in Chiayi County like coffee berries. This is bad for coffee
farmers.
嘉義有很多猴子喜歡吃咖啡樹的果實，這讓種咖啡的農夫非常頭痛。
The monkeys eat red coffee berries. They're soft and sweet … mmmm … They
eat green coffee berries too! They're hard.
猴子們喜歡吃咖啡樹紅紅的果實，又甜又軟，牠們也喜歡吃硬硬的綠色果實。
They leave coffee berries on the ground. Coffee beans are in the berries.
Getting these beans is hard for farmers.
猴子們會把果實丟滿地，而咖啡豆就在那些果實裡，農夫要一一撿起來很不容易。
The monkeys go to other farms too. They eat fruit and vegetables there. They
like avocados, mangoes, and bamboo shoots.
這些猴子不只吃咖啡果，還會吃其他農場的蔬果，像是酪梨、芒果和青脆的竹筍。
Chiayi helps farmers. It finds safe ways to keep the monkeys away. Farmers
can use loud sounds. They can use fences or nets. But, sometimes, the monkeys
come again.
不過，嘉義政府教農夫一些趕走猴子的安全方法，像是用聲音嚇牠們，或是蓋柵欄，但有時候猴子們還是會回來。
One farmer had an idea. Now he puts toy monkeys in his coffee field. But
their heads are down and their feet are up! They are upside down! They look
like monkeys that were caught…
一個農夫想到好主意，他找到一些猴子玩偶，將這些娃娃頭下腳上吊掛在咖啡田中，看起來像是被農夫抓住。
The real monkeys see these upside-down toy monkeys. They get scared. They
stay away!
猴子們看到這些娃娃都很害怕，牠們怕自己也會被農夫抓走，所以都離咖啡田遠遠的。
