Kiwis are birds. They have long beaks and soft feathers. They are the same
size as chickens. They cannot fly. Kiwis live in New Zealand. They do not
live in other countries.
奇異鳥有長長的嘴巴跟柔軟的羽毛。牠們跟雞差不多大，也不會飛行。只有在紐西蘭才見得到奇異鳥喔！
People in New Zealand love kiwis. Many people there call themselves "Kiwis"!
紐西蘭人很喜歡奇異鳥，所以很多人會叫自己「奇異人」！
But there are not many kiwi birds now. They need help. Many other birds in
New Zealand need help too.
但是，奇異鳥的數量變少了，而且也有很多其他的鳥類面臨一樣的困境。這些鳥需要大家幫忙！
Two small animals are not good for them. Rats and possums eat bird eggs and
baby birds. Possums also eat lots of leaves, flowers, and fruit. Now birds
have fewer places to live. They also have less food.
大老鼠跟澳洲袋貂會吃鳥蛋跟雛鳥！袋貂也會吃很多樹葉、花跟水果。這樣一來，鳥能住的地方跟能吃的食物都變少了。
Long ago, New Zealand had no rats or possums. They came from other countries.
Now people in New Zealand want to catch all of them.
大老鼠跟袋貂是從其他國家來的外來種，紐西蘭人希望把牠們全部抓起來，保護鳥類！
Grownups and kids want to help kiwis and other birds. So they put rat and
possum traps in gardens, parks, and forests.
大人跟小孩都一起幫忙，在花園、公園跟森林裡放陷阱捕捉大老鼠跟袋貂！
The birds need more help. There are many rats and possums to catch. But now
people in New Zealand see more kiwis and other birds! Kiwis are saving kiwis!
