Camping on Greenland's Ice
Ice sheets are very big and thick ice. They are not in an ocean. They are on
land.
陸地上的冰原是厚厚的大冰塊構成的！
The Earth has two ice sheets. The bigger one is in Antarctica. The smaller
one is in Greenland.
地球上有兩大冰原，最大的冰原在南極洲，另一個比較小的則在格陵蘭。
Greenland's ice sheet is the size of 47 Taiwans! It is three kilometers thick
in some places!
格陵蘭冰原有 47 個台灣那麼大。有些地方甚至有三公里那麼厚！
A man went camping with some people on Greenland's ice sheet. The ice has
lots of big, deep cracks. No one wanted to fall into a crack! Sometimes the
group used a rope for safety. They walked together very carefully!
有一名男子跟夥伴一起到格陵蘭冰原露營。冰上有很多又深又大的裂縫，大家都很怕掉進去。他們都抓著繩子，小心翼翼往前走。
The man also helped pull a very heavy sled. Food, tents, and camping things
were on it. They fell off a lot!
這名男子還要幫忙拉很重的雪橇，上面裝滿食物、帳篷跟露營用具。雪橇上的東西還常常會掉下來！
The man tried swimming in icy water. He had fun!
他甚至還跑到冰水裡游泳。雖然很冷，但他覺得很好玩！
But the man also saw that this ice sheet is getting smaller. Scientists say
150 million liters of its ice become water every minute! They say it is
because the Earth is getting warmer. This water makes our oceans higher.
他也發現冰原正在慢慢變小。科學家說，每一分鐘就有一億五千萬公升的冰融化成水。地球暖化讓冰原融化，也讓海平面慢慢升高。
Let's take care of the Earth and try to keep the ice sheets!
