A Beauty Contest for Water Buffalo
Water buffalo look like very big dark cows. Maybe you have seen them in
Taiwan. Do you think they are beautiful? Well, one country has beauty
contests for them!
水牛看起來像顏色很深、很大隻的牛。你也許在台灣看過牠們！你覺得水牛漂亮嗎？有一個國家會幫水牛辦選美比賽喔！
The contests are in Thailand. There are small contests. And there is a big
contest at a water buffalo festival every year.
在泰國，有些地方會舉辦小型的水牛選美比賽。也有一年一度的大型水牛節選美大賽！
At this contest, some water buffalo wear beautiful hats and blankets. Others
have colorful skin. Judges look at them. Do they have big horns? Are their
feet nice? Are their bodies strong?
在比賽中，有些水牛會戴上漂亮的帽子或是披上毯子，也有一些水牛的皮膚塗上顏色。評審會仔細看這些水牛的犄角大不大？身體強壯嗎？
Farmers take good care of these water buffalo. Some get a bath every day.
They take vitamins. They eat nice food like corn and soybeans. Most other
water buffalo eat grass.
農夫平時會細心照顧這些要參賽的水牛，幫他們天天洗澡。跟一般只吃草的水牛不同，要去比賽的水牛會吃維他命、玉米跟黃豆！
Farmers can sell contest winners for a lot of money. One farmer sold a
contest winning buffalo for 18 million Taiwan dollars!
如果水牛在比賽中得獎，就可以賣到很高的價錢。有一位農夫曾經把得獎水牛賣到一千八百萬台幣！
Long ago, water buffaloes helped farmers. They did a lot of very hard work.
Now, machines do this work.
很久以前，水牛會幫農夫耕田。現在，這些辛苦的工作都交給機器了！
And now there are water buffalo beauty contests!
