Making Clothes Colors Better for the Earth
Our clothes are many colors: blue pants, red dresses, yellow shirts. They
look great! But giving clothes color is bad for the Earth.
我們的衣服五顏六色，但是把衣服染色其實對地球很不好。
Most clothes are made of cloth. Dye gives cloth a color. How? Dye goes into a
lot of water. Then cloth goes into the colored water.
衣服是用布料做成的，我們將染劑放進水裡，再把布料浸泡到水裡染色。
But dye makes the water dirty. Every year, dye makes five trillion liters of
water dirty. That's how much water all the people in Taiwan use in two years!
但是這些染料會讓水髒掉，每一年，染劑會污染五兆公升的水，大概是全部台灣人兩年會用到的水量！
It's hard to clean dye from water. The dirty water goes into lakes, rivers,
and the sea. Plants need sunlight to grow. Dye in the water stops sunlight
from getting to plants.
把染劑從水裡清乾淨超困難，髒水會流到河流或大海，也會讓植物照不到它們需要的陽光。
Are there good ways to give cloth color? Well, one company made a machine. It
gives color to cloth with very little water. How? Dye goes onto cloth. The
machine is like a big printer!
有沒有辦法用環保的方式染衣服呢？有！有一間公司做了很像印表機的機器，只要很少的水，就可以將染料直接印在衣服上。
Taiwan makes a lot of cloth. A Taiwanese company is using this machine in
Taiwan now!
台灣製作很多布料，有一間公司正在用這樣的機器做衣服！
Maybe one day many companies will use this machine. Then a lot of water won't
become dirty!
